About Us :-

Bugle Bands have been very much away of life for those in The Boys' Brigade over the years, especially in London District, where for years individual BB Company bands fought it out in the famous Devonshire Cup Competition. It was not uncommon to have 30 bands competing against each other, with the two top bands going head to head in the final at The Royal Albert Hall. As numbers of boys began to drop off in the 1970's large numbers entered the 'Junior Band' competition for smaller sized bands with often 20 or more bands participating for the title of 'winner'.

Many of the band members of The Bugles & Drums of The Stedfast Association have that sense of history and past running through them. Indeed, many have not only played in winning bands in either the Devonshire Cup or the Junior Band Competitions, but some even went on to be winning Bandmasters.

The origins of the band go back to the year 2000  Band of 2000.jpgat what was supposed to be a 'one off' event to celebrate the Millennium by former members of The Boys' Brigade in London. One event became two, some regular practice sessions were commenced, two events became three. Ex members down in Brighton formed a band after seeing the London one, band members in the two bands became friends and decided to combine for events.

The band was previously known up until 31st December 2007 as the London Stedfast Association Bugle Band IMG_1064.JPG or "LSABB". On 1st January 2008, the band changed its name to its current name, in recognition that band members, who all give their time freely, come from all over England/UK, plus one even flies in from Germany on a regular basis.

In November 2006 under the old name of LSABB, the band made its 'debut' appearance in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators lining the streets of the City of London and millions more watching at home on BBC1 TV  in the Lord Mayor's Show Parade as entry 91.  A band of 48 did themselves and 'Stedfast' proud on what was a long day. See footage in the MP3/Video/Links Section and photographs with the photo gallery.

On the 31st May 2008, the band was one of '11' bands and many other typical BB items that entertained just under 3500 people attending the combined BB 125 and London Stedfast 25th Anniversary Day. The Historic Dockyard Chatham a.JPG which was the venue for the occasion was awash with BB/GB and Stedfast folk of all ages at this event which was jointly organised by David Kemp our former Band Administrator and John Bates, Secretary of London Stedfast Association.

The band played three times in their own right during the day, whilst performing a complicated series of movements. During the Tattoo and Beating Retreat Finale, the band again took a leading role, including a bugle contingent playing those well known pieces "High on a hill" and "Il Silenzio" with a guest band attending the event.

On Saturday 14th November 2009 on what was a horrible day weatherwise, we made our second appearance in the Lord Mayor's Show Parade (this time at entry no.52) under our new name IMG_9572_5.JPG . Despite the weather, thousands lined the streets of both the outward and return parade routes and it was again shown live on BBC1 TV. We also paraded the band's mascot 'Jack' a German Shepherd/Samoyed cross. See recorded footage of the band in  MP3/Video/Links and photographs within the photo gallery

Over the years we have played before many thousands of people when participating in BB/GB, Civic and local community parades and events both in the UK and overseas too.

The band are always keen to have new members join us ........  especially ladies who are ex GB or current serving GB Officers. Even if you have no past connection with the BB or GB but fancy playing with a group of people who like a laugh, a joke and play with a smile then you are most welcome to join us..
